Recycled bottle count for sustainable workwear polycotton
Carrington Textiles now provides the number of plastic bottles recycled per metre of polycotton in the company’s quest to offer supply chain transparency and traceability
20 October 2022
At Carrington Textiles we can now certify the number of plastic bottles recycled to produce every metre of our sustainable workwear polycotton, Delamere 195, aiming to add more transparency to our supply chain and offer customers environmentally friendly fabrics with added value.
A total of 11.3 plastic bottles are used to produce a metre of the recycled polyester fibres in Delamere 195 white. These bottles are post-consumer waste collected from around the world and processed by REPREVE to create a recycled polyester that can be used for a wide range of textiles offering the same quality, appearance and performance as virgin polyester.
This innovative recycled polyester fibre helps offset the use of petroleum, emitting fewer greenhouse gases and conserving water and energy in the process. It also diverts plastic bottles from landfills and oceans.
Sean Moore, Carrington Textiles’ Quality Assurance Manager, explains: “REPREVE’s polyester is made with recycled plastic bottles that are converted into a high quality chip which is melted into liquid polymer and extruded to create the fibre”.
The bottle count certification can be obtained for any of our fabrics using recycled polyester from REPREVE, including Delamere 195, 210 and 245.
The Delamere family of workwear fabrics is part of Carrington Textiles’ Balance Range of sustainable products, and includes 65% REPREVE recycled polyester and 35% Better Cotton in its composition. This fabric offers great abrasion resistance while providing a soft drape.
